The Diplomat Aero Fountain Pen - Pure Black gives the Aero collection its most unified and architectural expression. Matte black anodized aluminum covers the cap and barrel, while a matching black PVD-coated nib, dark grip, and restrained satin highlights create a nearly monochromatic writing instrument with a smooth, tactile finish.
Inspired by the Zeppelin
The Aero takes its name and visual direction from the streamlined airships of the early twentieth century. Longitudinal grooves travel across the cap and barrel like structural ribs, while the tapered ends and uninterrupted metal body recall the aerodynamic form of a Zeppelin.
Pure Black removes the bright contrast found on many Aero finishes and allows the silhouette itself to carry the design. The matte surface absorbs light, while subtle satin reflections reveal the grooves and curvature as the pen moves in the hand.
Anodized Aluminum Construction
The cap and barrel are machined from aluminum, keeping the pen substantial without the greater weight of solid brass. Anodizing bonds the black finish to the metal surface, producing a durable treatment with a silky texture rather than the high gloss of lacquer.
Diplomat's soft sliding click cap closes with a smooth, cushioned action and posts securely on the barrel. The fitted presentation box is also made from matte black anodized aluminum, extending the Pure Black design beyond the pen itself.
Writing Experience
A #6 JoWo stainless steel nib is finished in black PVD to match the body. Available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad, the nib provides the reliable flow and controlled feel for which Diplomat's steel nibs are widely respected.
The cartridge-converter filling system accepts standard international cartridges and includes a converter for bottled fountain pen ink. The aluminum grip and balanced body provide a secure writing position, while the cap may be posted for writers who prefer additional length.
Collector Perspective
The Aero has become one of Diplomat's defining modern designs because its industrial inspiration is visible in both form and construction.
