The Pelikan M400 Old Style Tortoiseshell Brown Fountain Pen is one of the most recognizable modern-vintage Pelikan designs, pairing the classic striped tortoise barrel with the slimmer pre-1997 M400 trim package. This version belongs to the original old-style M400 Tortoiseshell Brown production era, introduced in the mid-1980s and produced through the 1990s.

Craftsmanship & Design

The translucent brown tortoiseshell barrel is paired with dark brown trim and gold-plated furniture. Unlike later M400 Tortoiseshell Brown models, the old-style version uses a single cap band and omits the later decorative trim rings at the section and piston knob. The crown cap top carries Pelikan's etched two-chick emblem, the darker vintage logo style that distinguishes these earlier pens at a glance.

Writing Experience

This example is fitted with a monotone 14k gold Medium nib. The piston-filling system draws bottled ink directly into the barrel, while the translucent tortoiseshell material allows the remaining ink supply to be viewed through the barrel.
