The Namiki Chinkin Yukari Fountain Pen - Kinshu brings the quiet radiance of traditional gold-inlay engraving to the graceful Yukari silhouette. Its Kinshu theme evokes the brocade-like glow of autumn, interpreted through finely cut lines and stippled points that catch and release light across a deep urushi lacquer ground. The result is an understated, richly layered surface that rewards close viewing and daily use alike.
Executed in the chinkin technique, the design is first carved directly into hardened urushi using specialized chisels. Gold powder is then pressed into the incisions and gently burnished, allowing the engraved pattern to sit protected within the lacquer itself. The interplay of line work and dot punching produces subtle relief, with a warm, metallic shimmer that shifts as the pen turns in hand. The Yukari form remains balanced and refined, with gold-tone appointments and Namiki’s signature clip providing a restrained finishing touch.
