The Namiki Chinkin Yukari Royale Fountain Pen - Royal Rooster brings the celebrated Yukari Royale format together with an exacting tradition of gold-inlaid engraving. An ebonite body dressed in deep urushi lacquer provides the canvas, while a proud rooster emerges in tactile relief, its plumage captured through hundreds of precise cuts and inlaid gold that catch the light with quiet drama.
Chinkin is a classical Japanese technique distinct from maki-e. Instead of building designs on the surface with sprinkled powders, the artist incises the lacquer with fine chisels, then applies urushi as an adhesive and settles ultra-fine gold powder into the engraved channels. The result is a design that is literally set into the pen, with a dimensional texture and a warm, enduring glow.
On this Yukari Royale, the Royal Rooster motif is articulated with crisp linework and subtle gradations that reveal the hand at work. The urushi finish is hand-polished to a rich luster that emphasizes the depth of the carving and the harmony of form. Balanced proportions, a gently tapering profile, and Namiki’s signature clip complete a design language that remains understated while undeniably luxurious.
