The Sailor Professional Gear Realo Black Fountain Pen combines the flat-top profile of the Professional Gear with Sailor’s integrated piston-filling system, creating a more substantial and self-contained version of one of the brand’s best-known designs. Finished in glossy black resin with gold-plated trim, it keeps the formal, understated character of a classic black-and-gold fountain pen while adding the convenience of a built-in ink reservoir.

Craftsmanship & Design

The Realo follows the familiar Professional Gear silhouette, with squared finials, a broad cap band, and Sailor’s anchor emblem set into the cap top. Black resin gives the pen a traditional appearance, while the gold-plated clip and trim provide a warm contrast. A discreet ink-view window near the section lets the writer monitor ink level without disrupting the clean profile.

Writing Experience

This example is fitted with Sailor’s 21k gold Medium nib. Sailor’s larger 21k nibs are known for a controlled, precise feel with characteristic feedback rather than an overly glassy glide. The Medium point offers a broader everyday line than Sailor’s finer grades while remaining suitable for regular correspondence, journaling, and note-taking.

The integrated piston mechanism draws ink directly from a bottle, eliminating the need for cartridges or a removable converter and giving the Realo its defining distinction within the Professional Gear family.
